Harsh Realities- Children at Risk in Nepal

childtraffickingMark Storm, on staff with ServLife in Asia, recently wrote about the situation of a young child who had been kidnapped in their area. Mark wrote that Shuva, a 6-year-old boy in western Nepal who had been attending the school Mark has been working with near Tikapur had been kidnapped and sold to someone in India. Dangerous Faith Becomes a Resource for Vision Trip Groups

DangerousFaith.jpgJoel Vestal’s book Dangerous Faith has been read all over the world. But one unique use of the book is as a devotional resource during overseas vision/mission trips. Many churches have used the book to help prepare and equip volunteers going overseas. Recently Dustin Jones and a team of others traveled to India to visit ServLife’s projects, toting Dangerous Faith in hand. Breaking Chains of Poverty in West Nepal through Education Scholarships

In Nepal, some 260,000 Nepalese children are engaged in child labor and fifty-six percent of these children suffer from various forms of malnutrition. Illiteracy is running rampid among these children living in remote communities of Nepal and they do not have access to education systems, adequate water supplies or health care. But behind his shining eyes and hopeful spirit is a story of rejection, pain, and disfigurement, a story not uncommon in Nepal and surrounding countries, where the disease of Leprosy has not yet been eradicated. In October of 2008, I joined eight other members of my church on a trip to the other side of the world. We headed to Bihar, India to visit ServLife’s Children’s Home and Leadership Training Institute located there and participate in the annual Leadership Conference that’s held there each year. Each member of our team had a reason for going to India. I went on this trip to get outside of myself. To see the world as many experience it instead of as I experience it every day.
